I think people have truly lost any ability to be patient with storytelling.

‘This character is flat’ Wait for them to be fleshed out.
So many of the complaints I see about shows lately are people being confused by things THAT THE SHOW WANTS YOU TO BE CONFUSED BY THATS THE FUN OF MYSTERY AND FORESHADOWING YOU ABSOLUTE GOBLINS THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALSO CONFUSED AND THEYRE GONNA DO A BIG REVEAL AND EXPLANATION LATER IF YOU WOULD JUST FUCKING WAIT
rodion lcb is so fascinating. she’s so blase and acts so friendly that you would like her to be your friend. you would like to believe she’s a good person, completely and totally. she’s so enthusiastic and sociable and nice. she genuinely does care about the suffering of others. but at the same time, her biggest flaw is her pride. it’s the very human feeling of righteousness she exacts from inflicting ‘justice’ on those who deserve it, in her eyes. the desire to be a force enacting change upon the world, and justifying all her actions for that change. and while these ideals aren’t bad, the consequences of following her beliefs eats her up because rodya simply cannot let things be. she cannot resist the allure of being the one to Actually Do Something, consequences be damned in the moment
sonya knew this. sonya understood how rodya’s mind worked. in the novel, rodion feels compelled to murder the pawnbroker because he overhears that she’ll be all alone in her apartment. he obsesses and frets and tears himself apart over it, but the important bit is this: he still chooses to go through with the murder. he convinces himself it’s all for the betterment of those in the neighborhood and picks up that fatal axe. i wonder if sonya leaked similar information to rodya in limbus. i wonder if he knew she’d stew on the information and act rashly because her desire to be the One to Do Something would override all else.
rodion is your friend. rodion cares. rodion is also cruel and impulsive, because she believes herself extraordinary and in the right.
A few months ago my mom got our dog a really nice like $60 dog bed that Ellie just absolutely refuses to sleep in because she’d rather be in bed with my mom or on the couch.
